The Dixon Elementary archery team placed fourth out of 63 elementary schools at the NASP World Archery Championship last weekend in Louisville, Ky.
The Dixon team shot 3,200 in the tournament, led by Maurio Shish with a 278. Shish was also Dixon’s top shooter in the state and national tournaments, giving the school its first “Triple Crown” winner.
Archers from Breitling Elementary and Bryant High School also participated in the tournament. Breitling’s Jonathan Hall placed fourth out of 762 archers in the elementary boys division. scoring 288 of a possible 300 points.
Bryant’s Caleb Thornton and Elizabeth Conley also competed, shooting 290 and 274, respectively. Thornton, a sophomore who finished 41st in the high school boys’ division and 51st overall in the competition, also won $15,000 toward his college education in the scholarship competition.
