E.R. Dickson Elementary in Mobile has been selected as a Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama Be Healthy School.
“I am excited for the opportunity for our school to be one of Alabama’s Be Healthy Schools,” said Principal Katryna Kinn, who added that her school acts as a “beacon in the community, focusing on health, wellness and fitness.”
“We realized that there’s a mind and body connection. Healthy bodies create healthy minds,” Kinn said.
The school will be awarded a grant in the amount of $10,000. Fifty percent of the grant will be awarded at the beginning of the 2018 – 2019 school year, along with a banner recognizing E.R. Dickson as a Be Healthy School Grant recipient.
That money will be used for classroom activities promoting healthy lifestyles.
“We want to keep our students moving, physically and mentally,” Kinn said.
The remaining 50 percent will be awarded in January 2019 after documented progress has been made towards the goals stated in the grant application. At the end of the school year, Blue Cross will present each student with a token of appreciation for their commitment to live a healthy lifestyle.
